There are two broad ways you can get a visa to work in Ireland, education and critical skills. If you are on an approved English course or university course you can work 20 hours per week during your studies and 40 hours per week during you holidays. If you complete an approved university course you can work in Ireland full time for 2 years. If you have a critical skill and a job offer for over €30,000 you can apply for the critical skills visa. The cost is €1,000. If your application is rejected you will get 90% of this money refunded to you. You can apply yourself or your company can apply on your behalf.

English Courses

Ireland is a very attractive place to learn English because you can also work 20 hours per week during the academic year and 40 hours per week during your holidays. Universities

Similar to the above you can work during your university. However, when you finish your university course you can work full time for two years. When you finish your university you will most likely have a critical skill which qualifies you for the critical visa.

Critical Skills

Ireland has a shortage of certain skills, mostly IT, Finance & Accounting, Nursing and Languages. In an effort to plug this gap the Irish government provides a visa to those who have what it deems a critical skill to help plug the lack of supply in the marketplace.  More information.

You must stay with your employer for at least one year. After which you can change but you need to make a new application for the critical skills permit. If you lose your job you must notify the Department of Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation within 28 days. After this you will have 6 months to find a new job. When you find a new job you will need to apply again for the critical skills permit.
